Message from the Chairperson

Fáilte chuig Suíomh Gréasáin LGFA Nua Eabhrac. Bunaíodh LGFA Nua-Eabhrac beagnach 30 bliain ó shin agus tá sé ag fás ó neart go neart ó shin.

Welcome to the LGFA of New York’s website. The LGFA of New York was founded almost 30 years ago and has grown from strength to strength since then.

Over the years we have seen many teams participate in our championships with at times a huge influx of players from overseas in the past decade we have seen less overseas players and in recent years have seen a huge growth in our Gaelic 4 Girls program with more home based clubs as these girls move up into adult football.

Ladies football has always been strong here in New York with a huge support from the GAA here in New York. The U-14 girls have won 4 All-Ireland Feile titles since first entering the competition in 2006 waiting until 2012 for our first title. The County team have also contested 3 Junior All-Ireland Finals losing all three. They initially made the final in 1999 after a few close encounters in the semi-finals in the years previous. After withdrawing from the competition in 2002 New York had re-entered in 2011 making it all the way to Final which ended in a tie. The replay against Wicklow was a step too far with the players making their 3rd cross Atlantic trip inside a six-week period. They re-entered again in 2014 making it to the final once again but lost to a strong Wexford side. They had once again entered in 2020 but have had to withdraw due to the current travel restrictions.

The website is currently under construction, but we hope to focus on the history of Ladies Football here in New York and its contribution to the overall growth in Gaelic Games here in New York especially among native born players.

Enjoy browsing and feel free to reach out to the committee with any questions
